Off-Island Educational Field Trips
Located 35–40 minutes southwest of South Padre Island via TX-48, Brownsville's Mitte Cultural District is an exceptional STEM and cultural field trip destination for families and homeschoolers.
- Gladys Porter Zoo (500 E Ringgold St): A 31-acre zoological and botanical park renowned for captive breeding of Kemp's ridley sea turtles and Western lowland gorillas, featuring lush botanical plant species and a stingray touch tank in the Russell Aquatic Ecology Center.
