South Padre Island Dog Parks, Beach Leash Laws & Pet Living

How we know this: every fact below was read on 21 September 2026 from the City of South Padre Island, Town of Laguna Vista, and local park descriptions — official municipal regulations and park amenity listings.

Beach Leash Laws & Tompkins Park Status

Dogs are permitted on all South Padre Island Gulf-side public beaches 365 days a year. Municipal ordinance strictly requires canines to remain on a handheld leash at all times. Walking dogs through the fragile native dune vegetation is strictly prohibited.

  • John L. Tompkins Park (6100 Padre Blvd): A municipal park featuring a walking track, shaded picnic areas, and green space for pets. While dogs are welcome, it is a multipurpose facility where pets should be kept under control.
  • Roloff Park (Laguna Vista): Located west across the causeway on Highway 100, this 1.7-acre facility in Laguna Vista features a fully fenced area frequently utilized by dog owners, along with agility equipment and shade.
