Lost & Found Pets on South Padre Island: Friends of Animal Rescue

How we know this: the address, hotline and daily 10 AM–5 PM hours were confirmed on the shelter’s own site (spifriendsofanimalrescue.com) and the city’s Lost Pets page (myspi.org), and the Rescue ME Resale shop on the shelter’s site, on 2026-09-21. Adoption fees (dogs $85, cats $25) come from FOAR’s adoption page, and the 7–10 day hold before unclaimed animals are adopted out comes from the city’s Lost Pets page; intake counts were left out.

Overview

Friends of Animal Rescue (FOAR) is the island’s animal shelter and works alongside the city’s animal control. The non-profit takes in stray, displaced and injured animals from across the island.
Strays are held for their owners to claim; pets not claimed within 7–10 days are fully vetted (including spay/neuter) and move into the shelter’s adoption and foster programme. FOAR also operates Rescue ME Resale, a boutique thrift store located right at the facility whose proceeds benefit FOAR’s work with lost, found, homeless and injured animals.

Lost & Found Pet Action Steps

  • If You Find a Stray Pet: Call the FOAR 24/7 hotline at (956) 772-1171 immediately. Lost pets found by the city’s Animal Control and by island residents are brought to the shelter, which is open 365 days a year for intakes, to be kept safe and cared for until they are reunited with their owners.
  • If You Lose a Pet on the Island: Call the FOAR 24/7 hotline at (956) 772-1171 immediately and email a photo of your pet to [email protected]; FOAR can also be reached through its Facebook page.
  • Adoption & Fostering: Adoption and foster applications go through the shelter; current fees and requirements are on its website.
