Gulf cordgrass (Spartina spartinae, now often Sporobolus spartinae) — (iNat 2) and, far more importantly, near South Padre Island. It is the dominant of the Texas Saline Coastal Prairie, where stands can be nearly pure and the ground is flooded by storm surge , and it is the grass that Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge is fighting to keep as open prairie for the aplomado falcon on its Bahia Grande Unit (section 7) .
Shoregrass, keygrass (Monanthochloe littoralis, listed on iNaturalist as Distichlis littoralis) — , native, iNat 3. A wiry perennial to about ten inches, flowering April to June, rated an obligate wetland species ; a characteristic plant of the South Texas salt flats and high salt marsh . "Keygrass" and "shoregrass" are the same species.
Seashore dropseed is treated above; it belongs to both the foredune and the flats.
