Why this matters
A tide table predicts water level at a named station and datum. It does not directly predict surf height, rip-current risk, road firmness, fish activity or exact water at every bay flat.
What to compare
Read station name, date, timezone, units, datum and whether the value is predicted or observed. A high or low is a turning point, not a statement that water remains fixed until the next event.
What changes
Wind and atmospheric pressure can push observed water above or below prediction, especially in the shallow Laguna Madre. Local inlets and flats can respond differently from the Gulf station.
Make the next decision
Match the station and purpose, then combine the tide with wind, surf, weather and local access advice. Never use a table alone to justify beach driving or wading.
