Accessible Beaches

Compare South Padre Island beach entrances for the route, parking, and facilities you need.

Match the route to the person, not the icon

An accessible parking space, a paved approach, a boardwalk, and a Mobi-mat solve different parts of a beach visit. None guarantees a firm route all the way to the water, a transfer-friendly chair, or an available restroom. Sand moves, wind can cover a mat, and a portable restroom is not the same as a permanent one.

Start with the city’s Beach Access Guide and Beach Access Parking Guide, then open the individual access page. The Texas General Land Office’s coastal planning tools are another way to locate public access points and their listed amenities. Confirm the details that matter to you on the day of the visit.

Compare a few concrete options

Beach Circle Access #4 is listed with accessible parking, a concrete route finished with Mobi-mat, and portable restrooms, but no listed shower. Gulf Circle Access #3 is listed with accessible parking, Mobi-mat, permanent restrooms, and showers. Treasure Island Access #11 is another city entrance whose guide listing includes restrooms, showers, accessible parking, and Mobi-mat. Those are useful comparisons, not promises that a particular space or feature is usable when you arrive.

The beach access map helps locate each entrance. If your visit depends on an exact surface, usable width, beach-wheelchair availability, a transfer area, companion access, or a specific restroom feature, contact the responsible operator before travel. Do not assume a Mobi-mat is a wheelchair rental or that a county park offers the same route as a city access.

Make the rest of the day workable

Choose parking before unloading gear. Ask where the accessible space is in relation to the walkover, whether the route crosses a street, and what happens after the paved surface ends. Bring needed sun, hydration, medication, and transfer support; beach amenities vary from access to access.

Use beach conditions and beach safety before setting out. If surf, wind, water level, sand coverage, or a closed facility changes the plan, another mapped city entrance or a county park may be a better choice that day.
