Quick identification
Magnificent frigatebird (Fregata magnificens) is a Irregular but expected warm-season and post-storm visitor around South Padre and the Lower Laguna Madre. An enormous dark seabird with extremely long angular wings and a deeply forked tail. Males can show a red throat pouch; females have a pale chest.

Open Gulf, passes and high airspace above the coast.
Where to look
Watch the sky from Isla Blanca and the beachfront, especially in warmer weather and around changing marine conditions. Sightings are possibilities rather than appointments; tide, wind, fronts, water level and human activity can change what uses a site.
What the bird is doing
Frigatebirds soar for long periods and may chase other seabirds for food. A distant silhouette is normal; never interpret a single sighting as a predictable schedule.
Watch without changing the scene
Use binoculars or a camera zoom, stay on public paths and leave feeding, resting and nesting birds enough room to continue normal behavior. If a bird stops feeding, stands alert, calls repeatedly or moves away because of you, increase the distance.
