South padre island

Areas

Get your bearings on South Padre Island: Gulf beaches, the Laguna Madre, the north-end nature stops, the entertainment district and Port Isabel across the causeway.

Which part of South Padre Island should you choose?

The easiest way to picture the island is with two directions: the Gulf beach is on the east, and the Laguna Madre is on the west. Then look north and south. A room beside the beach can still be a long way from the particular park, boat departure or restaurant you have in mind.

These guides use familiar visitor areas, not precise neighborhood boundaries. Some overlap: a north-end property may also be Gulf-front or bayside. Compare its actual entrance with your likely stops on the visitor maps.

Choose the location before the room

If you expect to carry beach toys back for lunch and naps, trace the whole walk from the unit to the sand. If fishing is the reason for the trip, find the captain's meeting point before booking a room beside a different marina. For an evening out, look at the return trip after dinner, not only the afternoon bus journey.

The lodging comparison helps with hotel, condo and rental choices. Getting around covers the transport tradeoffs; Island Metro links to the operator's route and live bus locations.

Turn an area into an outing

An area is a starting point, not a reservation. Open a specific park, attraction or business guide to see the entrance, facilities and source links before adding it to your trip. The north-end wildlife guides, beach access map and food and drink guides are useful next steps.

You can also choose a ready-to-edit itinerary and move its stops in My Trip. Keeping one part of the island together leaves more time at the places you came to enjoy.

Explore the Laguna Madre side of South Padre Island for boardwalk birding, boat departures and waterside meals, with clear distinctions between public access and private waterfront.

Plan a day at the south end of the island, from Isla Blanca's Gulf beach to the jetties, with parking, directions and a link to the full park guide.

  • North End

Put Sea Turtle, Inc., the Birding Center, the Laguna Madre Nature Trail and Andy Bowie Park together without confusing their entrances, tickets or beach access.

  • Nearby Port Isabel

Visit Port Isabel across the causeway for the lighthouse and local history, with time for the bridge crossing and a plan that does not depend on climbing the tower.
