Gulf Side

Choose a Gulf-side beach entrance and a place to stay by the real walk to the sand, nearby facilities and the beach you want to use.

The beach side of the island

The Gulf side is the east-facing shore: the side to look at when beach walks and time on the sand are central to your visit. It is not one resort or one entrance. City walkovers, beachfront properties and county parks each have their own approach from the street.

Begin with the beach access map. Open a numbered entrance to see the information available for that particular walkover, then compare the parking and route with your lodging. A straight line on a booking map can hide a road crossing, stairs or a longer walk around a building.

A city walkover or a county park?

For a visit from a nearby room, a City beach access may be the simplest option. Compare entrances such as Access #18 at Aquarius Circle, Access #13 and Access #4 by their own mapped facilities; they are not interchangeable copies of one beach entrance.

For a park-based day, compare Isla Blanca Park at the south end with Andy Bowie Park farther north. Use the park guide for current operator links and entry information. A county access number is not the same numbering system as the City's walkovers.

What beachfront means for your stay

Ask where you leave the building, whether the route crosses a road, and what happens between the gate and firm sand. A Gulf view does not answer any of those questions. If a stroller, wheelchair or mobility aid is coming, get the specific surface and step information instead of relying on an “easy beach access” description.

The beachfront lodging guide covers the property questions. The condo building and unit checklist separates the room from shared features such as elevators and gates. For a day visit, use parking before unloading a cart or cooler.

Leave the swimming decision until you see the conditions

A beach reservation or sunny photograph cannot tell you whether swimming is suitable on the day. Read the beach flags guide and the current surf information, then follow posted directions and beach staff at the entrance. NWS Brownsville's beach forecast is the official forecast source, not a guarantee for one spot in the water.

You do not have to spend every meal on this side. For a change of view, compare bay-side restaurants or a north-end nature visit. Keep the beach entrance in your trip notes so everyone knows where to meet again.
