Isla Blanca Park

A researched visitor guide to Isla Blanca Park and its access, setting and practical considerations.

  • Official name: Isla Blanca Park (county pages also use "Isla Blanca County Park" and, in the county's beach access plan, "Isla Blanca Park (Beach Access 1)"). The county's June 2026 release calls it the "Crown Jewel of the Texas Gulf Coast" and notes it was voted #1 beach in Texas in USA TODAY's 2026 10Best readers' poll for the third straight year.
  • Jurisdiction / operator: Cameron County Parks & Recreation Department (Parks Director Joe E. Vega, (956) 761-3700). The county's FY2021 audited report lists Isla Blanca first among the parks the County "owns and operates".
  • Location: 33174 State Park Road 100 N., South Padre Island, TX 78597, at the island's southern end beside the Brazos Santiago Pass. The county's beach access plan describes roughly 3,150 feet of Gulf beach plus about 3,500 feet of shoreline along the Pass. Park office phones: 956-761-5493 / 956-761-5494 / 956-772-0131.
  • How to reach it: paved road — Park Road 100 runs straight into the park entrance; the county's 2016 master plan notes the park sits "very near to the only automobile access point on the island" (the Queen Isabella Causeway). No sand driving is needed or allowed (see Vehicles on sand).
  • Parking: the beach access plan counts about 933 public parking spaces inside the park, "including designated handicapped parking". Parking is what the per-vehicle beach user fee pays for; the fee is per vehicle, not per person, with no limit on occupants.
  • Fees / hours / seasonality (as of 2026-09-02):
  • Beach user fee in force now (through 2026-09-30): $12.00 per vehicle per day; $30.00 per bus; 30-day pass $30.00; annual pass (system-wide windshield sticker) $100.00. U.S. military veterans with proper ID: $5.00 day, $12.50 30-day, $50.00 annual (one discount pass per month or year; the discount does not apply to camping/RV). Replacement sticker $5.00; RV dump fee $4.00. This schedule took effect 2019-10-01 and is repeated in the April 2025 Park Space Agreement.
  • Change on 2026-10-01: Commissioners' Court placed "NEW BEACH USER FEE SCHEDULE ... EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2026" on its 2026-08-04 agenda, then Resolution No. 2026R08126 "APPROVING THE BEACH USER FEE SCHEDULE" on the 2026-08-11 and 2026-08-18 agendas. The county has not published the new dollar amounts on its website as of 2026-09-02; KRGV (2026-08-06) reports the daily fee goes from $12 to $15 and that veteran, annual and 30-day rates do not change. Treat the $15 as MEDIUM confidence until the county posts it.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists: no charge at any county access, per the county plan.
  • Gate hours: 6 a.m. – 9 p.m. (Isla Blanca entrance gate, per the Park Space Agreement). Office hours: 8 a.m.–7 p.m. daily in peak season (March until Labor Day) and 8 a.m.–6 p.m. the rest of the year (county park page and Park Space Agreement agree).
  • Trash Bag Program: the deposit-refund program applies only at County Beach Accesses 5 & 6, not at Isla Blanca.
  • Amenities:
  • Restrooms · showers: the plan counts seven public restrooms with showers; the 2016 master plan says nine restrooms with showers and rinse stations. The CVB listing describes "numerous restroom/shower facilities".
  • ADA: "designated handicapped parking" (plan). Beach mats/wheelchairs: not published by Cameron County as of 2026-09-02.
  • Lifeguards / Beach Patrol: the Cameron County Beach Patrol (CCBP) is the county park system's designated lifeguard service, USLA-certified, with more than 40 seasonal staff; the plan lists "seasonal lifeguards/beach patrol, and police surveillance" at Isla Blanca. In 2016 the county described Dolphin Cove as the lifeguards' summer base camp. A 2018 local-press report gives the season as Memorial Day to Labor Day (MEDIUM, dated).
  • Pavilions / shade: two large beachfront pavilions with food and beach-rental concessions (the 2016 plan names them Sandpiper and DJ Lerma), plus shaded picnic and barbecue areas.
  • Trash: dumpsters (RV rules say bagged trash goes in dumpsters, not cans). Bike racks: not published. Picnic tables: yes (pavilions/picnic areas). Playground: "playground areas" per the plan.
  • Other: public boat ramp; full-service marina; jetty fishing with a jetties bait stand; walking trail; restaurants and retail concessions; water park ("Beach Park at Isla Blanca", formerly listed as Schlitterbahn); County Amphitheater & Event Center at Dolphin Cove; UTRGV Coastal Studies Lab and museum; courtesy cable TV only for RV sites inside the gate.
  • Vehicles on sand: No. The county plan states Isla Blanca "is not a beach vehicular accessible point"; it is a pedestrian beach with off-beach parking. County-wide, driving in or on dunes within 1,000 ft of mean high tide is prohibited.
  • Camping: Yes, but only in the RV park / designated tent spaces, not on the beach. More than 600 RV sites (premium, standard inside gate, standard outside gate, partial hook-up), eight rental cabanas with bunk beds, restrooms, showers and kitchenettes, and first-come tent spaces limited to a 12 x 12 ft area and four people. Rates (Park Space Agreement, April 2025): premium $60/$70/$50 daily (winter/summer/off-peak) and $750/$800/$650 monthly; standard inside gate $50/$60/$40 daily, $600/$650/$550 monthly; standard outside gate $45/$55/$35 daily, $550/$625/$530 monthly; partial hook-up $40/$50/$30 daily, $500/$600/$500 monthly; cabanas $50/$100/$40 daily (+$50 deposit); tent $20/$25/$20 daily. Seasons: winter Dec 1–Mar 31, summer Jun 1–Aug 31, off-peak Apr 1–May 31 and Sep 1–Nov 30. Monthly stays need a $100 utility deposit, weekly $15; electricity is metered; guests staying a month or more buy a $5 AVI windshield tag (max two per site); FireFly charges a $5 reservation fee. Maximum stay six continuous months. Check-in 2 p.m., check-out 11 a.m. Gas/diesel generators are banned except in outages. A separate RV fee schedule (Resolution No. 2026R08125) was on the 2026-08-11 agenda, effective 2026-10-01 per the 2026-08-04 agenda; new RV rates are not published by the county as of 2026-09-02. Winter 2026-27 reservations for the 43 RV sites outside the gate open 2026-09-15 at 8:00 p.m. (Aug 25 agenda); the July 15 release for inside-gate sites was postponed on 2026-07-14.   • Rules specific to this spot: park rules are the county's RV/park rules in the Park Space Agreement — pets leashed and cleaned up after; no feeding wildlife; no glass or litter on county beaches (plan); quiet hours 11 p.m.–8 a.m. for sound equipment; no pools/inflatables; no commercial activity on sites; no residency. The county's closure notices tell visitors to heed lifeguards and the flag advisory signs. Group F covers ordinances in depth.
  • Hazards: the county publishes no hazard sheet for the park. What it does say: the park sits on the Brazos Santiago Pass ship channel with a mile-long jetty, and county notices ask visitors to follow lifeguard advice and the Flag Advisory System. Rip-current and jetty-specific warnings for Isla Blanca are not published by Cameron County as of 2026-09-02 (Group F / Group G cover conditions).
  • Nearest food / water: inside the park — pavilion concessions, restaurants, retail stores and the jetties bait stand; rinse stations at the pavilions.
