A cool front can give way to a warm, windy afternoon, and the fish and bait respond to those changes—not to a date on the calendar. On one day, protected bay water may be the comfortable choice. On another, the surf, jetty current, or a charter may work better.
Give yourself an easy second choice
Start with the water you actually expect to fish, then bring tackle for that water and your target species. One generic setup won't suit every spring option. A late front, strong southeast wind, or thunderstorm can change the day within hours.
