Three outings for a longer winter stay
A winter stay gives you permission to spread things out. This three-day suggestion puts the Birding & Nature Center on its own day, keeps Port Isabel's history stops together and leaves the beach for a day when the forecast suits you. Seasonal programs change, so check the actual events calendar for your dates.
Day one: watch the wetlands
The Birding Center's FAQ describes fall through spring as its strongest birding period and notes winter diversity. Go in the morning, ask what has been observed recently and stay as long as your interest and mobility allow. The same FAQ details accessible parking, an elevator and a wheelchair-friendly boardwalk; contact the center about any other access need.
Day two: one trip to Port Isabel
Pair the Port Isabel Lighthouse with the Historical Museum. Confirm both before crossing the causeway. The tower climb is weather-dependent and has stair and age requirements; enjoying the grounds or visitor center is a different visit. The museum's current hours also need a direct check.
Day three: wait for the beach day you want
Use Andy Bowie Park for a walk, time on the sand or another beach outing when the weather works. Winter does not guarantee warmth, calm surf or an open-water day. Check the current forecast and ocean conditions, and move this stop elsewhere in a longer stay if needed.
For days when you would rather not drive, read Island Metro and its current route information. Saving this itinerary does not reserve admission, transportation or a particular event—and it leaves the rest of your winter calendar pleasantly open.
