Long and whip-thin, adults commonly 107 to 152 cm and exceptionally up to 259 cm; the western form is often pink, tan or reddish, and juveniles are plain tan with white spots on the snout . It is a daytime hunter that actively searches for lizards, other snakes, insects and birds, will climb to escape, and is, at a measured 5.8 km/h, the fastest snake on the continent; it bites if grabbed but is nonvenomous . One island record was annotated as found dead on the road .
