Wind is part of a Lower Laguna Madre fly trip
Clear, shallow flats can give you a chance to sight-fish, but open water also makes wind and loose line harder to manage. Decide whether a guided skiff, wading, or a kayak suits your casting distance, dominant hand, line control, and ability to identify a fish before the cast.
Be ready for the view to disappear
Cloud cover, wind, water level, and water clarity can quickly take away the visual advantage. Practice casting in wind before the trip. Use barbless or easily removed hooks where appropriate, and give fish, birds, and other people on the flats their space.
