A lighted bay pier is its own kind of night fishing
Texas Parks and Wildlife's South Padre fishing FAQ says anglers commonly fish under pier lights for spotted seatrout, and it notes two bay fishing piers in the South Padre area. A lighted-pier session gives you a clearer starting point than simply “go fishing at night,” and a species guide is worth having ready before you cast.
The FAQ does not name the piers or promise their hours. A public waterway is not a blanket invitation to use a closed park, pier, parking lot, or private dock after dark. Cameron County's current Isla Blanca Park page publishes park-office hours but not a night-fishing schedule. Confirm the particular pier or park's pedestrian, parking, and after-dark access before leaving; do not read daytime fishing information as an overnight-access guarantee.
Match the method to the water
For a bay pier, bring a compact tackle box, landing and hook tools, a hands-free light, and a backup. Keep your gear together so it doesn't block the walkway. Use the bait-and-lures guide to choose bait or lures for the fish you're after. TPWD's FAQ identifies spotted seatrout as a common catch under pier lights, though a bite is never guaranteed.
For Gulf surf, TPWD contrasts a long surf rod and heavier line for general surf work with bass-sized rods and small pieces of shrimp for pompano. For Brazos Santiago jetties, learn the rocks, access route, and exit in daylight first. The jetty guide is not an after-dark access authorization. Conditions and rules still set the limit
Check the National Weather Service Brownsville marine forecast before you load the car. Its rip-current guidance specifically flags the extra hazard around jetties and piers. Bring a headlamp and a backup, pliers, hook tool, water, and a basic first-aid kit; keep line, hooks, and bait out of the walk path.
